Utah Highway Patrol troopers, many of them working overtime shifts, tallied more than 100 intoxicated driver arrests during their annual New Year’s holiday crackdown.
UHP Cpl. Todd Johnson said Wednesday that they made 107 DUI arrests from Dec. 28 through Jan. 1.
Salt Lake County-assigned troopers took 31 of those allegedly drunken drivers off the road, all but one of those arrests coming during the New Year’s Eve enforcement blitz.
The Utah County Sheriff, meanwhile, reported that 12 deputies arrested six drivers during a DUI saturation operation on New Year’s Eve.
Weber County troopers arrested nine motorists on DUI charges, while seven drivers were arrested in neighboring Davis County. The remainder of the 107 arrests were spread throughout the state, Johnson said.
