Turkey roaster used as heater blamed for fatal Utah fire
First Published Dec 28 2012 09:11 am • Last Updated Apr 08 2013 11:34 pm

Police believe a deep-fry turkey roaster ignited a fire that killed a Santaquin man.

Santaquin Police Chief Dennis Howard said police will need DNA and fingerprint research to confirm the victim’s identity. However, it was believed the sole resident of the trailer was Tim Davis, who has been missing since the fire. Davis is believed to be 40 to 45 years old, the chief said.

Howard said Friday that investigators believe the man was using the turkey roaster inside the trailer, at 420 W. Main St., for heat when the fire erupted early Sunday.

The fire was reported just before 3 a.m., but the trailer was engulfed in flames by the time crews arrived. Once the blaze was extinguished, the man’s badly burned body was found inside. The man’s next of kin have been notified that he is likely the victim.

Howard said it appeared the victim had been sleeping when the fire broke out, his escape cut off by the flames.
