Victim of Sanpete sledding accident hit tree

Authorities on Sunday released more information about a sledding accident that killed a 6-year-old boy in Sanpete County.

Deputies said the boy, whose name was not released, was sledding Saturday in Fairview Canyon with family when he struck a tree and suffered a head injury.

His family rushed to his aid and took him to Sanpete Valley hospital where he died.

The incident was initially described Saturday as a sleigh-riding accident, but authorities clarified Sunday that the boy was on a sled.
