Utah remains on track for a thin blanket of white for Christmas.
The National Weather Service’s special weather statement Sunday morning said a storm would arrive late Sunday night and persist into Monday afternoon. "Precipitation is expected to begin as rain or a rain and snow mix across valley locations tonight before changing to all snow in most locations by Monday afternoon."
The heaviest period of snow is expected from late morning through afternoon Monday.
Valley snow totals are not expected to be heavy, but it could be enough to cause problems for holiday travelers, particularly in mountain areas. The weather service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for the western two-thirds of Utah and southwest Wyoming, cautioning drivers to expect winter conditions through Monday night.
Another, lighter storm is possible on Christmas night, providing frictionless rooftop landings.
