The attorney for a Price woman accused of sexually abusing children plans to defend her by claiming she has diminished mental capacity.
Amanda Nicole Romano, 26, is charged with five counts of object rape of a child, five counts of sodomy upon a child, four counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child — all first-degree felonies — and class A misdemeanor child abuse. When she appeared in 7th District Court for a preliminary hearing on Friday, her attorney, David Allred, asked to reschedule the hearing so that he could file a motion for diminished capacity.
The judge rescheduled her hearing to Jan. 7.
Romano and her husband, Timothy Lee Romano, 25, are accused of sexually abusing at least six children in the past three years, though he is charged with two counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child. He was also scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Friday, but it was also rescheduled for Jan. 7 so his attorney could review the evidence.
A friend of the Romanos, Tyler Barney, is also charged with two counts of sexual abuse of a child. When he appeared in court on Friday, his attorney scheduled his next appearance for Jan. 18, so the attorney could review the evidence.
