The Weber County Attorney's Office has identified Clifford Dean Owens as the man Ogden police shot Tuesday before Owens led officers on a multicounty chase.

Ogden officers responded to a complaint about a suspicious vehicle at an apartment complex Tuesday night, but when an officer approached the vehicle, Owens, 51, tried to drive away. He repeatedly rammed the officer's cruiser, and the officer opened fire, striking Owens twice as he sped away, according to the Attorney's Office.

He led police on a high-speed chase until he was eventually caught in Cache County. Owens was taken to the hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries.

The officer was unharmed, but has been put on paid administrative leave pending an investigation by the Attorney's Office.

According to a Utah court records check, Owens has no criminal history other than a fraudulent insurance claim conviction in 2007.
