A 28-year-old West Valley City woman died Thursday when her Ford pickup truck swerved into the back of a dump truck waiting to make a left turn in West Jordan.

West Jordan police Sgt. Richard Bell said the accident occurred about 11 a.m. at 3150 W. 7000 South.

The woman was traveling eastbound on 7000 South when she struck the dump truck at about 35 mph. A passenger in the woman's vehicle, a 43-year-old man, was taken to Intermountain Medical Center in serious condition.

The dump truck's driver was uninjured.

Bell said investigators had not determined the cause of the accident, but were checking into whether the pickup's driver had been distracted at the time of the crash.

The victim has been identified but police were not releasing her name pending notification of family, Bell said.
