A 45-year-old man was in serious to critical condition in an Ogden hospital Wednesday after his car spun out of control on Interstate 15 and was struck by a semi-flatbed trailer rig.
Utah Highway Patrol Cpl. Todd Johnson said the man, who was flown from the accident scene by medical helicopter, was expected to survive his injuries.
The man's small passenger car was northbound on I-15 at mile post 332, near Layton, when he lost control and stalled in traffic with his vehicle's driver's side exposed to the oncoming big rig.
The semi's driver was not hurt in the ensuing 7:20 a.m. collision, which closed down the left lanes for about two hours while wreckage was cleared.
No citations were issued and the accident remained under investigation, Johnson said.
UHP said weather was not believed to have been a factor, with the road surface reportedly dry at the time of the accident.
