First, Salt Lake City police were looking for two bank robbers. Then, things got seriously complicated when a suspicious package was found at the crime scene.

Police Sgt. Shawn Josephson said the holdup of the Zions Bank branch at 1420 S. 300 West took place about 11:30 a.m. Monday. Two men, both wearing masks and hooded sweatshirts, came in and approached a clerk. One produced a handgun as they demanded and received cash.

The two suspects were then seen leaving the scene in a green compact car.

But when police arrived, employees also reported they had found a package — possibly left behind by the robbers, or at least unclaimed by any of the staff or customers in the bank.

Employees and customers were evacuated to nearby police offices and a bomb squad was called to the scene. Det. Rick Wall said that the package was later found to be safe and contained nothing harmful.

Police say the suspects were two men with hooded sweatshirts and ski masks over their faces. One man was approximately 6 feet tall with a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt. The other man was about 5 feet 8 inches tall with a white hooded sweatshirt.
