A Roy woman allegedly shot multiple times by her husband during a weekend domestic disturbance was in improved condition Monday.
The woman had gone through surgery late Saturday night and early Sunday for several gunshot wounds to her torso and was upgraded from critical to serious condition. Roy Police Chief Greg Whinham said she was expected to recover and has been talking with investigators.
Christopher Locke, 41, was being held without bail in Weber County jail on suspicion of attempted criminal homicide, two counts of domestic violence in the presence of a child and carrying a weapon while intoxicated.
Whinham said the Locke home, at 3792 W. 4750 South, is a familiar one to law enforcement. He was able to find at least five 911 calls involving domestic disturbances on record for the address.
The most serious call, however, came about 10:25 p.m. Saturday when gunfire was reported.
Whinham said the woman, despite her wounds, was able to flee to a neighbor's home with her daughter, who allegedly had been struck on the head with a bottle by her father. As police arrived, a young boy also was able to escape the residence.
Police alleged that Locke used a handgun to shoot his wife, and then when officers arrived went out onto the front porch of his home armed with an assault rifle. No further shots were fired, but it took police about two hours to negotiate the man's surrender.
In addition to Roy police, Weber County SWAT and officers from several other nearby law enforcement agencies responded to cordon off the area.
