The funeral for one of the victims of a mass shooting at a Connecticut elementary school will be held in Ogden on Saturday.
Six-year-old Emilie Parker's family will arrive in Utah sometime on Tuesday to prepare for the girl's services, according to Brian Joy, the bishop of grandfather Randy Parker's local congregation of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Emilie's parents, Robbie and Alissa Parker, both grew up in Ogden and raised their daughter there for a few years. The family has moved around for Robbie Parker's schooling and work in recent years. The Parkers moved to Connecticut less than a year ago. Emilie was a first-grader at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Conn.
Joy said that a viewing will be held at Myers Mortuary in Ogden on Friday. The funeral is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at an LDS chapel in Ogden, located at 1000 Suncrest Drive.
Joy said that church members were planning on hanging pink ribbons around town Monday evening in anticipation of the grieving family's return to Ogden. Pink was Emilie's favorite color, Joy said.
The shooting on Friday claimed 27 victims, including 20 children.
