Salt Lake City Mayor Ralph Becker's office and YouthCity have kicked off their annual food and warm-clothing collection drive with donations being accepted through Jan. 18.
There are many ways to donate:
• Online donations for the Utah Food Bank are accepted at bit.ly/UITSIj. A $1 donation buys more than 4 pounds of food at a major discount.
• Food and warm clothing can be dropped off at most city buildings.
• Collection events are scheduled for 4-5:30 p.m. Monday and 2-3:30 p.m. Jan. 11 on the east side of City Hall, 451 S. State St.
Most needed items include peanut butter, canned tuna, fruit and veggies, boxed meals and pasta, and new or gently used clothing items such as coats, sweaters, hats, scarves, gloves and socks.
All donations will benefit the Utah Food Bank and Catholic Community Services.
Donations will be delivered Jan. 21 as part of the city's annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service project at the Utah Food Bank.
