A student at Brigham Young University is in the hospital after she was hit by a sport utility vehicle while crossing the street in Provo.

According to Provo police Sgt. Brandon Post, the dark blue BMW hit the 22-year-old student while she was crossing the intersection of 300 East and 500 North at around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The driver of the SUV pulled over briefly but then sped away without rendering aid. The victim sustained a skull fracture and is recovering at a hospital, Post said.

The driver is still at large. The BMW was damaged on its front end and left debris at the scene.

Provo police are asking anyone with information about the driver to contact the department at 801-852-6210.
