After 40 years of service, State Fire Marshal Brent Halladay is calling it a career.
Lance Davenport, Utah Department of Public Safety commissioner, announced Halladay's retirement on Thursday.
"Brent's commitment to firefighting efforts has been unmatched in his daily determination to improve fire safety for everyone in this state," Davenport said.
Halladay joined the Provo Fire Department in 1971 as a firefighter, then moved on to the Orem Fire Department in 1974 as a fire inspector. He became Orem's fire marshal in 1977. In 1981 he joined the Utah State Fire Marshal's Office as a fire/arson investigator, and six years later became chief fire/arson Investigator.
By 1990, he was chief deputy state fire marshal, becoming Utah state fire marshal in April 2011.
A replacement for Halladay was not immediately announced.
