A 40-year-old South Salt Lake mother remained in critical condition Wednesday, the day after allegedly being stabbed by her teenage daughter during an argument over school work.
South Salt Lake police Officer Gary Keller said the woman's vital signs had been stabilized. She was expected to recover, but there was no estimate for when she would be released.
The 16-year-old daughter remained in custody, having been booked into a juvenile detention facility on suspicion of aggravated assault.
Keller said three adults in the family home, near 300 E. Lambourne Avenue (3155 South), witnessed the stabbing, along with the girl's sibling, just before 3 p.m. Tuesday.
The mother was stabbed multiple times in her upper body with what is believed to have been a large kitchen knife.
The girl's name was not being released by police because she is a juvenile.
