West Bountiful was the only Davis County community that saw an increase in car thefts between 2006 and 2011.
The FBI's Uniform Crime Report data showed that there were nine car thefts in West Bountiful in 2011, compared with four in 2006.
The other cities in Davis County filing reports with the FBI reported declines in car thefts. Bountiful and Clearfield reported the largest drop in actual numbers of car thefts — 22 each. Clearfield led with the largest percentage decrease, 47 percent.
None of the cities in Salt Lake Valley reported an increase in motor vehicle thefts. In actual numbers, Salt Lake City reported the largest decline, reporting 554 fewer thefts in 2011 than in 2006. In percentage, South Salt Lake saw the largest drop, 37 percent.
Park City, which is in Summit County but is included in the City editions of Close-Up, experienced a 50 percent drop in motor vehicle thefts, from 30 in 2006 to 15 in 2011.
The data were compiled by UtahsRight.com for a weekly series in The Salt Lake Tribune's Close-Up section highlighting information gleaned from public databases. The purpose is not to provide analysis of the data, but to provide raw numbers so the public can analyze the data themselves for their own purposes.
