Police apprehended a Magna man who allegedly was holding his ex-girlfriend hostage Tuesday night.

The ex-girlfriend, who is in her 40s, contacted the 40-year-old suspect's mother, saying he was holding her against her will at a house near 3200 South 7700 West, said Unified Police Lt. Justin Hoyal. He had barricaded the door of a basement room they were in with a dresser, Hoyal said.

Police were called to the scene about 6:30 p.m. and tried to contact the suspect, but had no luck, Hoyal said. They believed there were weapons in the room.

A SWAT team eventually forced its way into the room and took the man into custody, Hoyal said. The woman was uninjured, he added.
