Salt Lake City gang detectives have arrested a 14-year-old girl in the Dec. 4 shooting of another girl.

Police Sgt. Shawn Josephson said Monday that the suspect was taken into custody Sunday afternoon. The shooting left another 14-year-old girl with bullet wounds to her lower back and buttocks. The victim has since been released from the hospital and is recovering at home.

The suspect has been booked into the city's Youth Detention Center on suspicion of aggravated assault and riot, Josephson said.

The shooting occurred at the culmination of a fistfight near 750 W. 500 North.

Investigators continue to try to learn what instigated the fight, but several known street gang members were involved, Josephson said.
