Police looking for Sugar House business burglar
Salt Lake City police want the public's help identifying a suspect believed to have burglarized at least a dozen Sugar House businesses since early October.
"It's a substantial amount," said Salt Lake City police Det. Rick Wall.
The burglar typically breaks a window or door to get into the business, then steals either safes or cash registers, according to the police.
Police released surveillance footage from a burglary at Fishers Cyclery , 900 E. 2175 South, on Nov. 20. The video shows the man breaking through the bottom half of the front door and crawling inside. He runs off camera and reappears about 30 seconds later, crawls out the broken door, then runs across the street and into the night.
He made off with cash from the register, said store manager Wayne Baxter.
"It's upsetting, certainly," Baxter said. He was surprised to get the alarm call about 9:30 p.m., as most burglars strike hours later. He arrived at the store only about 90 seconds after the suspect got away.
Police describe the suspect as a white man wearing a dark-hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans, white athletic shoes and black knitted gloves.
Anyone with information about the suspect or his whereabouts is asked to contact police at 801-799-3000. People can submit anonymous tips by texting TIPSLCPD.
