A kidnapping suspect being sought earlier this week by law officers throughout several Mountain West states, including Utah, was captured Wednesday morning in Bismark, North Dakota.
A citizen found Mitchell L. Walck, 57, in the sleeper cab of his parked semi truck, according to a release from the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office in Idaho.
Walck pulled a gun on the man, then fled on foot.
Bismark police were in the area and arrested Walck after a short foot chase, the news release said.
Walck is accused of having abducted a 62-year-old woman in northern Idaho at gunpoint last weekend after having fired several times at an Idaho State Police trooper during a Spirit Lake-area chase.
That Friday night pursuit began after Walck allegedly sped away from a traffic stop in his truck. After a 30-minute chase, he abandoned his vehicle and managed to elude the ISP on foot near Rathdrum. Authorities learned of the subsequent kidnapping on Sunday when the victim’s sister-in-law called 911.
Walck reportedly forced the woman into her own car and drove across state lines, where he released her unharmed in Glendive, Mont.
The car, a Subaru Forester, was recovered in the Bismark area.
