A case of mistaken identity had an elderly Kearns woman ducking for cover as bullets ripped through her house.

Unified Police Lt. Justin Hoyal said the incident began when three male Pacific Islanders knocked on the woman's door, near 4500 West and 5300 South, about 9:45 p.m. Monday. They asked for someone who did not live there.

It was as they left in a dark colored passenger car that the trio pulled handguns and opened fire.

The woman, whose identity was withheld, escaped injury.
