A North Salt Lake water treatment plant employee was taken to the hospital Monday afternoon for a precautionary evaluation after a fluorine chemical spill occurred inside the facility.

South Davis Metro Fire Chief Jim Rampton said hazardous materials workers were called about 12:30 p.m. when the spill occurred during a delivery at 1100 N. 40 East.

The employee was treated at the scene and was conscious, breathing and alert when taken to the hospital for further examination. He was released a short time later, Rampton said.

No one else was injured.

Traffic on 1100 North was restricted between 800 West and 1100 West for close to three hours during the cleanup.
