Organizers of a fundraiser for five young boys burned in a gas-can accident in Perry said Saturday the event was a success.
Donations and charitable outpouring from the 3,000 people at the Friday fundraiser are enough to meet the $10,000 goal, said Mardi Obray, owner of The Peak children’s event center, which hosted the event.

"Every person gave what they had," Obray said. "It is enough to make a difference, and I think everybody wanted to be part of that."
The fundraiser included a bake sale, a boutique with local vendors and a silent auction of more than 400 items, with all proceeds going to the boys.
Each of the five families is facing financial burdens from medical bills and other expenses related to the Nov. 15 accident, said Obray. She was prompted to get involved because she employs the mother of 7-year-old Tayton Winward, who remains hospitalized in critical condition.
The Peak’s children event center in Perry is still accepting donations to help the families and can be contacted at 435-723-1280 for more information. There is also an account set up for Tayton at Zion’s Bank.
