A Midvale man has been charged after failing to get away in a high-speed chase.
The 41-year-old man was charged Friday in 3rd District Court with failure to respond to an officer’s signal to stop that resulted in injury, a second-degree felony, as well as four misdemeanors.

An officer pulled the man over at 7251 S. 300 West on Nov. 19, and immediately recognized him from previous arrests, according to the charges. The man gave a fake name and birthday to the officer and drove off.
As the officer pursued, the driver sped up to 80 to 90 mph and swerved from the far left lane to the far right without signaling, according to the charges. His passenger tried to open her door to get out, but he would speed up each time she did.
The officer eventually used a PIT maneuver to stop him, hitting the right rear panel of the vehicle and causing it to roll.
During field sobriety tests, the man admitted to police that he had used methamphetamine in the last few days. He also told police that he thought driving recklessly would make them stop chasing him, the charges add.
