A woman was seriously injured when the car she was exiting outside Cottonwood High School was struck by another vehicle.

Murray police spokesman Kenny Bass said the accident occurred about 9 a.m. on 1300 East, near the north entrance to the school's north parking lot.

The woman, in her 60s,was getting out of the rear passenger side of the car when the crash occurred. Details on how she was injured were still being investigated, but she suffered severe injuries to a leg and was transported to the hospital by ambulance. She was in serious condition initially, though reportedly was conscious and alert.

The accident remained under investigation and no citations were immediately issued.
