Utah forecast: Air quality for Wasatch Front dips

Northern Utah has a mixed climatological bag for its Tuesday forecast: sunny with highs in the upper-40s, but smoggy and getting cloudy as nightfall comes.

The Utah Division of Air Quality, noting an air inversion trapping pollution from automobiles, wood-burning stoves and other particulate-spewing sources, rated Salt Lake, Davis and Weber counties as "Yellow." That means the region’s air quality is deemed unhealthy for sensitive groups — people with lung disorders, children and the elderly, and people active out of doors.

Southern Utah expected sunny skies on Tuesday with high temperatures in the mid-60s,

The Utah Avalanche Center rated only the Uintas as "moderate" for risk of dangerous snowslides, while the Logan, Salt Lake, Ogden and Provo mountains were give "low" avalanche risk grades.

Salt Lake City looked for a 48-degree high Tuesday, the same as forecast for Monday; Ogden expected 48 and 46 degrees, respectively; Logan 46 and 41; Provo 52 and 49; Wendover 46 and 45; Duchesne 49 and 47; Cedar City 58 and 57; St. George 65 and 66; and Moab 56 degrees, both days.
