A Summit County woman sought on child abuse charges after she gave birth to a drug-addicted baby has been located.
A $100,000 warrant was issued earlier this month for 27-year-old Shea Renee Sheeran, who gave birth to a boy on Aug. 29 at the Park City Medical Center. Both mother and baby tested positive for drugs and the child began experiencing drug withdrawal symptoms six hours after birth, according to prosecutors.
Sheeran was charged with intentionally inflicting serious physical injury to a child and endangerment of a child, both second degree felonies. She is being held at the Utah State Prison and is slated for a Monday court appearance, said Summit County Attorney David Brickey.
The baby was adopted by another family after treatment at Intermountain Medical Center in Murray, but he may suffer long-term brain damage and learning disabilities, according to charging documents.
Sheeran allegedly admitted to taking prescription Adderall and clonazepam during her pregnancy as well as cocaine and heroin.
Court documents indicate Sheeran was on parole from Utah State Prison at the time she gave birth, having served time for forgery and illegal drug possession.
