Separate one-vehicle crashes claimed two lives this week in southern Utah’s Kane County, the Utah Highway Patrol said.
UHP Cpl. Todd Johnson said Wednesday that a female passenger died when the small sedan she was riding in ran off the left side of eastbound U.S. 89, about 20 miles northwest of Kanab. UHP identified the victim of the 6:30 a.m. Tuesday crash as Maddeline Morris, 18, of Spring Hill, Texas.

The uninjured driver, also from Spring Hill, was believed to have fallen asleep. The car landed on its top.
At 10:45 a.m. Tuesday, a woman died after she lost control on icy westbound State Road 14, just south of the Iron-Kane County line. Johnson said Lucy Heaton, 37, of Alton, Utah, plunged off the right side of the road and rolled several times down an embankment.
