Jared Francom's family members and peers will be able to see his name added to the National Law Enforcement Officer's Memorial Wall, thanks to cash donations made to the Ogden Police Department.
Francom, 30, was shot and killed in January while members of the Weber Morgan Narcotics Strike Force were serving a search warrant at an Ogden home. Five other agents were also injured.
On Wednesday, the police department recognized one donor — Kier Construction Corporation — which made a $10,000 donation to allow family and fellow police officers to travel to Washington, D.C. during National Police Week in May. At that time, Francom's name will be added the memorial wall.
Ogden Police Chief Mike Ashment said Wednesday that the Kier family is one of a several donors who have given money to the police department in an effort to send Francom's family, along with as many OPD officers as possible to the event.
Ashment said they hope to raise enough money to send at least the other officers involved in the January raid to the event, but hope also to send other officers who worked closely with Francom.
"This is kind of that final closure," Ashment said. "It's very significant. When we have an officer killed in the line of duty, you can imagine the impact on the department."
Ashment said most of the money donated by the Kier family was raised during the James Kier Memorial Golf Tournament, which was held in July.
