Two people accused of causing the death of a man at a Capitol Hill District home over the summer have pleaded guilty to their roles in the man's death.
A 17-year-old teen pleaded guilty to manslaughter in 3rd District Juvenile Court, while 21-year-old Ammon Karr entered a guilty plea to obstructing justice in adult court.
A juvenile judge sentenced the teen to confinement by the Youth Parole Authority, possibly until his 21st birthday, according to court records.
The Salt Lake Tribune does not typically identify juveniles charged with crimes. The teen could remain in a juvenile facility until he turns 21, but could be paroled earlier depending on his behavior and other factors, court officials said.
Karr is scheduled to be sentenced Jan. 7.
In exchange for their pleas, a charge of obstruction of justice was dismissed against the teen and a charge of aggravated assault was dismissed against Karr.
Those two defendants, along with Adam Karr, 26, were charged in connection with the fatal stabbing of Kaleb Yazzie, 22, of Midvale, during a July 31 fight at the home near Girard Avenue (560 North) and Desoto Street (40 East).
Charges of murder and obstructing justice are still pending against Adam Karr in 3rd District Court. His preliminary hearing has been scheduled for March 5.
The trio were attending a party at the Girard Avenue home when Ammon Karr and Yazzie got into an argument, according to charging documents.
Yazzie left, but later returned to get his liquor. The two Karrs and the 17-year-old allegedly went outside to fight Yazzie, according to the charging documents.
During the fight, Adam Karr allegedly stabbed Yazzie in the chest several times with a knife. When Yazzie collapsed, police allege the teen dragged Yazzie out of the yard and down the road to an alley and stomped on his head.
The trio then allegedly changed their bloody clothing and put it in a bag along with a small folding knife that was used to stab Yazzie, documents show.
