An Illinois man died after his car crashed head-on with a pickup Friday on Interstate 15 near St. George.

Trooper Cameron Roden of the Utah Highway Patrol said the man was driving south about 4:45 p.m. when a Hyundai he was driving drifted over the median and into the northbound lane, where he struck a Dodge pickup head on.

The Hyundai's driver, who was the only person in the vehicle, died at the scene. He was wearing a seat belt. Authorities had not released the man's name as of Saturday evening, saying that his family in Illinois hadn't yet been notified. Roden said the man was likely in his 60s.

The driver of the pickup was taken to Dixie Regional Medical Center with injuries that were not life-threatening.

Roden said it was uncertain whether alcohol was a factor in the crash or if the motorist was driving too fast. Troopers also are looking into whether the driver may have been fatigued before the Friday crash.
