The Morgan County Sheriff's Office has identified the victim of a Thursday plane crash.

Sheriff's Sgt. Jason Lee said Friday that the deceased and sole occupant of the single-engine aircraft that went down about 6:30 a.m. Thursday 5 miles north of the Morgan airport was Darren Tidwell, 50, of Huntsville.

Tidwell had taken off on a flight to Logan, but never arrived. His family went to the air to look for him and spotted his crashed plane about 4 p.m. Thursday.

An hour and a half later, deputies found the man's body and aircraft in a remote area of mountains and canyons.

Lee said Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board investigators were on the scene Friday trying to determine the cause of the crash.
