A Friday morning rollover crash on Interstate 80 near Saltair claimed a man’s life.

Utah Highway Patrol Cpl. Todd Johnson said the accident, which involved two pickup trucks, occurred about 7:10 a.m. near mile post 104 on eastbound I-80, about 12 miles west of Salt Lake City.

Johnson said the victim was 19-year-old Adrian Marquez, of Tooele County. He died at the scene.

Speed was considered a factor in the crash, and Johnson said troopers also were investigating the possibility that the victim may have been impaired at the time of the accident.

The crash occurred when Marquez’s 2008 Dodge 1500 pickup truck, traveling eastbound, struck a 1998 Chevrolet pickup truck and then rolled off the right side of the road. Marquez, not believed to be wearing a seat belt, was ejected as his vehicle rolled several times, Johnson said.

No other injuries were reported.

The crash left two lanes restricted to travel for about an hour while troopers were investigating and the wreckage cleared. During the closure, traffic was diverted to nearby Highway 201.
