A man’s in trouble with the law after he made fake heroin so that his friend would not smoke the real stuff.
The West Jordan man was charged Thursday with manufacturing, distributing or possessing an imitation controlled substance, a class-A misdemeanor, and possession of drug paraphernalia, a class-B misdemeanor, in 3rd District Court.

An officer pulled him over Nov. 11 near 7400 S. Redwood Road for stopping on the sidewalk before making a right hand turn. He was put under arrest for a warrant and when police searched him, they found a small scale and a bag containing two black tar-like substances, according to the charges.
Police tested the substances and they proved not to be heroin. The man told police that he made the substance out of corn syrup and other ingredients to help his friend get off the drug.
The officer spoke with the friend, a passenger in his car, who said the man figured out how to make heroin and that she would not be able to tell the difference when she smokes it, the charges add.
