Clearfield police have identified a motorcyclist who died in a collision with an SUV.

Lt. Adam Malan said Wednesday that Joseph Dale Thomas, 22, of Roy, was killed in the Tuesday afternoon accident as he turned onto 700 South (State Road 193) from a southbound Interstate 15 off-ramp and collided with the black SUV.

The SUV, driven by a 33-year-old Pleasant View woman, was making a left turn onto 700 South from a gas station parking lot located on the corner of 1350 East and 700 South at the time of the collision.

The SUV's driver, who was treated for minor injuries at the scene, was not cited. However, police continued to investigate.

"The lead officer in the investigation will screen the case with the county attorney about what the charges may be, if there are any," Malan said. "It does appear, though, from several witnesses on the scene that speed was a factor on the motorcyclist's part."
