All three home invaders wore masks when they broke into an Orem residence. Then, one of them spoke, and the jig was up.

Orem police Sgt. Craig Martinez said Monday that when the suspect demanded money and drugs from the 20-year-old male victim, he recognized the voice as that of a male acquaintance, also 20.

The incident occurred just before 5 a.m. Sunday when the trio, one armed with a handgun and another brandishing a baseball bat, forced entry to the home near 100 West and 450 North. The victim awoke to find the three in his bedroom.

"When the victim said that he knew [who] it was ... under the mask, the man with the bat hit him across the arm and [the gunman] hit the victim in the face with his fist," Martinez said.

The three suspects then locked the victim inside the closet of another bedroom of the home and left after stealing unspecified items.

By 7 a.m., police had staked out the alleged gunman's home. Then the suspect drove up in a pickup truck and got out, he and two other males, still inside the vehicle, were taken into custody. The stolen items were recovered from inside the suspect's house, Martinez said.

All three remained in Utah County Jail Monday on suspicion of possession of stolen property, possession of a control substance and aggravated robbery.
