A former Ogden School District teacher has been charged with sexual exploitation of a minor in connection with a student.

Liza Anne Roberts, 26, of West Haven, was charged Wednesday in 2nd District Court with second-degree felony sexual exploitation of a minor, and dealing harmful materials to a minor, a third-degree felony.

Roberts is scheduled for her initial court appearance on Nov. 19 before Judge Mark DeCaria.

Roberts, who was a teacher at Mt. Fort Junior High School when the alleged crimes occurred, was arrested and booked into the Weber County Jail on Tuesday and released after posting $15,000 bond, jail records show.

Ogden police Lt. Danielle Croyle said Wednesday that a school resources officer had received information regarding an "inappropriate relationship" between Roberts and a 14-year-old male student.

Parallel investigations by Ogden police and the Ogden City School District revealed the woman purchased a cell phone and gave it to the student to use, Croyle said.

A search warrant confirmed that partially nude photos were transmitted back and forth between the two phones, Croyle said.

Ogden School District spokeswoman Donna Corby declined to discuss the case, other than to confirm that Roberts had been terminated on Oct. 26.
