Utah forecast: Sunny with clear air, and air waves

Utah weather loves the metaphor. Take the forecast for a post-election Thursday: a balmy, sunny day with breezes clearing the air.

Goes nice with the long-awaited end to the flood of political attack ads, doesn’t it?

In addition to a return to TV spots touting cars, fast food, acne cures and invitations to class-action lawsuits, northern Utahns can look for high temperatures in the upper-60s with south winds of 15 to 25 mph giving the region a "Green," or health air quality grade.

Southern Utahns also can expect easy breathing, according to the Utah Division of Air Quality, with highs in the upper-70s and breezes of 10-20 mph under partly cloudy skies.

The southwestern quarter of the state will actually be under a high-wind watch through Thursday night, with winds in the 30-40 mph range and gusts of 55 mph.

Salt Lake City expected a high of 71 Thursday, up one degree from Wednesday’s forecast; Ogden expected 67 degrees both days; Provo 70 and 68, respectively; Logan 65 and 66; Wendover 64 and 61; Duchesne 62s; Cedar City 65 and 71; St. George 77 and 82; and Moab 73 and 68 degrees.
