A motorist struck and killed a 39-year-old woman Saturday night as she attempted to cross a South Salt Lake street.
Police spokesman Gary Keller said the South Salt Lake woman was crossing from the east side of the street about 9 p.m. near 2763 South and 300 East when she was struck about 9 p.m. by a vehicle traveling north.
Keller said the woman, whose name was not released pending the notification of her family, was transported to a hospital where she was pronounced dead.
He said the woman decided to cross the street near a crosswalk, but was not actually in it when she was hit. He said the area where the crash occurred is not very well lit.
Keller said there was no indication that alcohol was involved with either party, and no charges had been filed. Keller said the case would likely be screened by prosecutors when the investigation is complete to determine if any charges are appropriate.
