Organizations seeking Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) or Emergency Solutions Grant funding for fiscal year 2013-14 can get their "Requests for Proposals" online Monday.
"This is a competitive process," said Jim Braden, spokesman for Salt Lake County Mayor Peter Corroon, who disbursed $4.2 million in grants last year but noted that more than $8 million had been sought by 116 applicants.
The amount of money that will be available July 1, 2013, remains to be determined by Congress.
While that decision is pending, nonprofit agencies, community and faith-based organizations and government agencies still have a Dec. 18 deadline to submit their proposals to the county's Community Resources and Development agency, Braden said.
Priority will be given, he added, to projects that advance affordable housing, homeless activities, the delivery of essential social services or economic development.
A citizens review panel will evaluate the proposals and make funding recommendations to the next county mayor, who will decide next spring which are funded and at what levels, Braden said.
