A 42-year-old West Point man was expected to survive despite being pinned between a tire and wheel well when a jack gave out while he was working on a pickup truck Monday.
The man and his stepson were working on the suspension and putting a leveling kit on the truck at a home near 100 North and 3000 West about 2:30 p.m. when the jack failed, said Davis County sheriff’s Deputy Scott Harper. The man was leaning over the front left tire inside the wheel well; his chest was pinned to the tire when the truck slammed down on him, Harper said.

The stepson immediately jacked up the truck and freed the man, Harper said. When responders arrived, the man was struggling to breathe but regained consciousness and was able to speak with rescuers.
