A National Park Service official is crediting quick-acting federal and local firefighters for preventing a houseboat fire at Lake Powell’s Wahweap Marina from spreading or causing injuries.
Glen Canyon Deputy Superintendent Brian Carey said Friday that public safety dispatchers received a 911 call at 6:30 a.m. Thursday reporting the blaze. NPS and Page, Ariz., firefighters responded, and an NPS Dive Team removed adjacent houseboats from the dock area.

Flames engulfed the remaining houseboat, which was eventually towed to the marina’s ramp to prevent it from sinking. A second vessel sustained fire damage to one side and was towed into the breakwater for repairs.
All the boats were unoccupied, and no injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire was under investigation by the Coconino County, Ariz., Sheriff’s Office.
