A weekend blaze on American Fork High School property appears to have been suspicious in origin.

American Fork Fire Battalion Chief Doug Bateman said Tuesday that his investigators were looking into whether the Sunday afternoon blaze was a case of arson.

Bateman said that a passer-by reported seeing two older boys running from the area and getting into a car, but authorities had no clear description of either the youths or the vehicle. No arrests had been made, nor any suspects identified.

The fire caused more than $20,000 in damage to pole vaulting mats and a protective cover, as well as the surface at the north end of the high school's track. No structures were involved.

Bateman asked that anyone with information related to the fire call American Fork police at 801-763-3020.
