A Salt Lake City mother was in jail Monday after she allegedly ran a red light, hit a police car and then fled on foot from the scene with her young child in tow.
Salt Lake City police Det. Mike Hamideh said the accident occurred about 10:15 a.m. Sunday when the 32-year-old woman blew the red light at 900 South and Main Street and rammed the northbound cruiser.

"After the collision [she] grabbed her 4-year-old child and ran from the scene. After a short foot pursuit, officers took her into custody," Hamideh said.
The woman, with her child looking on, fought with officers before being taken into custody, Hamideh said.
The woman was booked into Salt County jail on suspicion of child abuse, hit and run, fleeing police, assaulting police, running the red light and driving without insurance coverage.
She remained behind bars Monday in lieu of $6,977 bail.
The child — police would not provide its gender — was uninjured and was turned over to the woman’s relatives, Hamideh said.
