The Carbon County Sheriff's Office has identified a Helper man who died in a one-vehicle crash last weekend.

Sheriff James Cordova said Wednesday that the deceased was Roy Eugene Bonuales, 41.

Bonuales was eastbound on remote Gun Club Road near Helper late Sunday morning when his 1998 Chevrolet Tahoe left the road and plunged 1,000 feet down an embankment. He died at the scene of the crash.

The victim had been talking with his wife shortly before the crash, believed to have occurred about 9:30 a.m. When the call suddenly disconnected, she became concerned and called 911.

Assisted by a Utah Highway Patrol helicopter, sheriff's deputies located the wreckage and Bonuales' body just after 1 p.m. Sunday.

The cause of the crash remained under investigation.
