An AWOL Logan tortoise has been reunited with its owner.
Assistant police chief Jeff Curtis said it turned out the giant African Spurred Tortoise had only made it about a half-block before a resident spotted it strolling down a city street Monday afternoon.

"It didn’t get far from home," he said.
It took two animal control officers to relocate the tortoise, which was 21 years old and weighed 125 pounds, to a safe location to await reunification with its owner, Curtis said.
He said the owner noticed his tortoise was missing and contacted animal control later that day, he said. The tortoise was returned to its home.
Curtis said he wasn’t certain how the tortoise managed to get loose.
The Associated Press reported the tortoise’s name is Timmy and he is one of nine that belong to owner Curtis Baird, who recently moved to Logan.
