Crews declared southern Utah’s 2,458-acre Roundabout Wildfire 100 percent contained Friday afternoon.
Fire Information Officer Mike Melton said the fire, which was spotted Monday afternoon, has scorched cheat grass, brush, pinyon and juniper fuels in the Horse Valley area, 20 miles northwest of Cedar City.
Melton said that "the difficulty of the terrain and weather and [dry] fuel conditions" had delayed expected full containment by an extra day.
Noting a "Red Flag" wildfire risk warning issued for the nearby San Rafael Swell region, Melton cautioned the public that "the fire danger continues to be at an elevated level ... Use precautions during activities in proximity dry vegetation to prevent starting wildfires."
While believed human-caused, the investigation into specifics on the fire’s origins continued Friday.
