The Utah state Board of Regents have named four finalists to succeed Ann Millner, who is retiring as president of Weber State University. The short list features a University of Utah administrator and three out-of-state candidates.
They are Charles Wight, the U.'s dean of graduate studies and associate vice president for academic affairs; Michael K. Thomas, president and CEO of the New England Board of Higher Education; Kim Hunter Reed, chief of staff of the Louisiana Board of Regents; Kathryn Cruz-Uribe, provost at California State University, Monterey Bay.
A search committee selected them from a pool of 50 candidates following a national search.
"We look forward to speaking with these candidates further as the Board of Regents moves closer to finding a new leader for Weber's diverse and highly engaged campus community," said Regent Robert Marquardt, who chaired the committee, in a statement.
Wight, a chemist, and Cruz-Uribe, an anthropologist, were accomplished academics before becoming administrators. Reed and Thomas, a Brigham Young University graduate who majored in philosophy, hold expertise in the policy realm.
The candidates will be on the Ogden campus Monday to visit privately with faculty, staff, administrators and students. The Regents will interview them in a closed session on Tuesday and are expected to reconvene in public at 3:30 p.m. to name their choice.
