A Utah Highway Patrol motorcycle officer escaped serious injury late Tuesday morning when he crashed his bike and tumbled down a 50-foot embankment in Summit County.
Utah Highway Patrol Cpl. Todd Johnson said the officer was one of several in a group of motorcycle troopers on a training ride. The group had left Salt Lake City and proceeded east on Interstate 80 and then onto Highway 65 when the accident occurred about 10:45 a.m., just north of East Canyon near mile post 13.5.
"The trooper came to a sharp curve and went off the road," Johnson said, noting the accident was still being reviewed.
Initial fears that the trooper, whose name was not immediately released, suffered a broken leg proved untrue, but he did sustain serious scrapes and bruises as a result of the crash.
