An elderly man was fatally injured when struck by a vehicle in Sunset on Monday morning as he attempted to cross a dark and busy street.
Sunset police Detective Bruce Arbogast said 85-year-old Darrel Thompson was not in a crosswalk as he walked west to east, apparently to reach a bus stop near 2300 North and Main Street. About midway, at 7:01 a.m., he was hit by a full-sized Chevrolet pickup.

Thompson died at the scene, Arbogast said.
Normal traffic flow through the area was restored by 10 a.m. Before that, the right northbound lanes had been closed while the investigation was ongoing.
